Creating a Writing Culture in College

Creating a Writing Culture in College

Bandung Tuesday (17/06) There is a saying that to know the world, read, and to be known to the world, write. This proverb reminds us that how important writing is to a person
. Meanwhile, interest in writing among the academic community in higher education is still relatively low. Although currently universities continue to encourage students and lecturers’ interest in writing, many members of the academic community find it difficult to put their thoughts into writing that is good and interesting to read. Because writing is still not a culture among the academic community. This is the background for holding a Book and Blog Writing Workshop by the Faculty of Economics & Business (FEB) Telkom University.

According to Adhi Prasetyo, a FEB lecturer who was one of the speakers at the event, he said, look for topics that we and others like. Choosing a book topic that we like will increase enthusiasm for writing. There are several ways that we can get topics that we and others like, first look for topics that are most widely available in bookstores or look at references from the internet. we can find interesting topics on google trends or google keyword planner Adhi said. Adhi continued, the next method is to determine an outline to make it easier for us to write books, make a commitment to writing by allocating time, and create guilt if we don’t write.

In addition to writing books, there are so many easy and inexpensive ways to get our writings read by others, namely through blogs and social media. In the event, it was said that the benefits of blogging include a record of knowledge so as not to be lost, a means of practicing writing, expressing opinions, personal branding, as a business, and adding friends or friends, said Jurry Hatammimi.
Andry Alamsyah said the same thing. Basically, humans need to express their ideas and thoughts through writing. Currently there are so many social media that can be used as a means to write including facebook, path, twitter and others.

Writing Obligations for Lecturers

Writing is the result of the work of a lecturer’s thoughts. Writing is a skill that must be possessed by a lecturer. Because in addition to teaching lecturers are also charged with the obligation to conduct research, write scientific articles and journals. Someone’s writing that is widely quoted by others will be a source of pride. And it becomes a proof that the results of our thoughts get recognition from others. It is hoped that the lecturers will be active in writing, not only writing scientific articles or journals, but also actively writing on blogs, Google Scholar, academia, etc. said Deputy Dean II of FEB Lia Yuldinawati. For that, it is mandatory to become a lecturer and must have good writing skills.
